Leonard R. Sussman worked
for The Philadelphia School District for 38 years. He was a teacher at William L. Sayre Junior High School, an assistant principal
at Furness Junior High School, a principal at Taggart Elementary School as well as Finletter Elementary before retiring. Mr.
Sussman was a longtime member of the Philadelphia Association of School Administrators and a trustee of the group's health
and welfare fund.In addition to his years of dedication to The School District of Philadelphia, Mr. Sussman worked with Jewish
youth as he taught for more than 30 years at Congregation Beth-El and at Adath Jeshurun. He was also the director of the boys'
camp at Pine Forest and later, founder and director of Camp Abenaki, in Waterville, Maine. Leonard R. Sussman was a founding
member of B'nai B'rith Educators Lodge (before BB became a unit (connecting the woman's chapter with the men's lodge)). He
was president of our unit from 1975-77. Mr. Sussman was a national commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League, president of
career and counseling services in Philadelphia and a member of the board of governors for B'nai B'rith District Three Council.
He was a life delegate of B'nai B'rith District Three, a member of the board of trustees of B'nai B'rith Educators Unit, a
board member of Jewish Campus Activities for college campuses in the Philadelphia area and a board member of B'nai B'rith
Youth Organization.
